How to pre-register at the DMV's website

Before the 30-hour Classroom Instruction, you must pre-register at the DMV's website. The email address that you provide to the DMV during this online process is the same one that will receive the confirmation of class completion and permit test completion (if applicable).

Here are all the steps necessary to obtain a pre-registration code online:

  • Click "Apply for driver license/ID".

  • Instructions - Click "Next".

  • Date of Birth - Answer the question, enter applicant's date of birth and click "Next".

  • Type of Application - Select "Instruction Permit" and click "Next".

  • Driver Information - Enter all required information, click "Click to Verify Address", choose the verified one, and click "Next".

  • Mailing address - Answer the question and click "Next".

  • Out-of-State Information - Answer the question and click "Next".

  • Emergency Contact - Answer the question and click "Next".

  • Demographic Information - Enter information and click "Next".

  • Documents to Bring - Proof Documents - Please review the "items you need to bring" to your DMV visit. Click "Next".

  • Correspondence - Renewal Reminder - Answer the question and click "Next".

  • Correspondence - Confirmation Letter - Enter an email address to receive confirmation of the application. The email address that you provide is the same one that will receive the confirmation of class completion and permit test completion (if applicable). Click "Next".

  • Review - Review the information, then click "Submit". Click "Ok" to confirm submission.

The next screen contains the confirmation number (circled in red below, underneath the barcode). This number is your pre-registration number.

If you lose this number, the driving school can look it up based on the email address that you used.
